THE MOUNTAINS OF MY HOME – SISIYI FALLS

Welcome back!

In the previous post I already mentioned how much I loved this place. So, with a grip so strong on my heart, it drew me back over the Christmas break, this time with family and they were ecstatic! Given the heavy rains that fell all year (last year), the Sisiyi falls were pregnant and bursting with even more water than at the time of my first visit.

It was a cloudy day with all signs of a bountiful downpour. And that meant we had to be quick about everything; from clearing at the reception, to embarking on the hike. Given the route we took, taking a guide was optional. We followed the simple walking trail through the actual camp site and straight to the base of the falls. It was a well-paced walk along a child friendly path, nothing like the trail we took. However, you can never be too cautious as some areas were slippery and the younger kids needed help getting across the web of streams that line the hill. Extra caution should be taken at the falls as the moss-covered rocks are slippery and the water violent.

And as predicted the heavens poured just as we concluded our walk. Not a lucky day to release your inner child and play in the well-manicured lawns with such a back drop. But given the line up of activities for the day, that was all the time we had for the falls. And off we went to explore another hidden gem!

I know it will be sunny when you head there to complete my adventure! And that had better be sooner than later. Google maps will easily get you there, but asking locals for directions is also a smart option. They give real time updates on the condition of the roads which sometimes get bad during the rainy season.
