SOMETHING TO DO – DIANI

Waking up in Diani – what good fortune! Each morning was a reminder of how beautiful life is. Coming from landlocked Uganda, pristine beaches are a thing of fantasy and I was smack in the middle of it.

Swimming in the ocean was a must-do. Riding the gentle waves and getting washed up on the beach by the really strong ones was epic. And although I knew it was super salty water, I kept tasting it to remind myself that this was real! I swam, walked, run and danced in the ocean – it was perfect!

But that was not the only thing I did. Diani offers a host of activities both on water and land, for both adrenaline-junkies and chilled-out holidaymakers. I opted for a more laid-back holiday and this is what I did:

I woke up earlier than the birds to catch the sunrise and watch crabs digging up holes in a mad dash all-over the beach. Take advantage of the morning stillness to reflect on life, be thankful for the far you have come and clear your heart to receive the day’s blessings.

During the day, I engaged in mostly self-lead activities that revolved around the ocean, pool and house porch. I also took a tuk-tuk to the surrounding market area where I went window shopping and got myself some goodies. Don’t forget to visit neighbouring beaches and restaurants to enjoy the local cuisine and alternate views.

Evening walks gracefully prepped me for the dinner and whatever the nights had to offer. I particularly enjoyed the night sounds of strong crashing waves and the mild breeze. It rained a couple of times during the holiday, but that didn’t ruin the fun. So, whenever you head to Diani, you are guaranteed a blissful holiday!
